Welcome to the Twin Tiers!
The Twin Tiers Chapter of ATHS was formed in May of 1986 by Tom Evans and Ed Greene in Tom’s shop in Newark Valley. We started with about 15 members. Tom was on the Board of directors of ATHS at the time as Regional VP for NYS.
Our first truck show was held in 1989 at the Newark Valley Trout Ponds Park in conjunction with the annual Depot days, a commemorative event of the railroad and other early transportation. Our truck shows continued at the Trout Ponds Park for about 6 years, then moved to the middle school for better public exposure. Two shows were then held at the Oakdale mall in JC. The next move was to the Cortland Junior Fairgrounds, then to the Brockway Museum in Cortland. In order to expand the show we relocated to the Broome County fairgrounds in 2012, which proved to be a great success. Members of our chapter, as well as members of other chapters, have shown a great deal of enthusiasm for this venue.
Also worthy of note is Twin Tiers involvement with the 2003 National ATHS show in Syracuse. Twin Tiers along with other NY ATHS chapters, put on the worlds largest antique truck show at that time, displaying over 1000 trucks!
Twin Tiers has well attended monthly meetings usually at member’s locations around the area. We now have about 60 members. Other activities include an annual bus trip to a place of interest, usually an antique truck museum, as far away as Ontario Canada. Additionally we must mention our road rally, also annual, in memory of John Potter, who fostered great camaraderie and enthusiasm for our club. We drive around the countryside in our antique trucks or private vehicles, often visiting points of interest. This year will be our 11th rally.
To join our group all that is required is an interest in antique trucks or truck transportation history as well as membership in ATHS. Truck ownership is not required. Contact any of our officers to obtain more information!
